Car-Pooling and Sharing City Platform “Wasilni”

“Wasilni”, meaning “Drive me” in Arabic, is a carpooling and ride sharing platform that connects car owners with passengers who want to share a ride to a specific destination. The more individuals travel and move alone, the more the city suffers from congestion, air pollution and limited available parking lots. Using intelligent analytics and comprehensive filtering, the “Wasilni” carpooling solution matches drivers with passengers based on location, preferences, time and journey duration, eventually creating a positive impact on various areas such as traffic and air pollution in the city. If widely adopted, the platform will allow for less congestion on roads and parking lots, along with supporting better social interactions and a cleaner urban environment.

USE CASE

JOURNEY

Jameel, a student at the Islamic University of Madinah, drives to school every day. His friends recommend him to use the newly launched carpooling and sharing city platform, through which he can connect with passengers who want to share a ride to school or another destination on his way.

Jameel subscribes to the platform, fills background and profile information, and becomes a member of the platform’s community. He enters his car details, including number of seats, and inputs information about his usual transport journeys and destinations.

Platform users now have access to Jameel’s mobility journey and habits, and based on their preferences and needs, can request to join a ride with him.

Jameel receives a request from two Islamic University students to join his ride to university the next day. He checks the passengers’ profiles to approve or decline the requests based on their reviews and feedback from other platform users. Jameel approves the two passengers and pins a pickup location on the platform’s map to meet before the ride.

After completing the ride, payments are settled through the platform. Both Jameel and the passengers rate their trip (out of 5 stars) considering the trip’s comfort, driver’s and passengers’ friendliness, etc. Following this trip, Jameel and the passengers became good friends, and kept on carpooling to university on a weekly basis.
