Patient Companion App “Murafiq”

The “Murafiq” app, meaning patient companion,  leverages the use of tele-health solutions and smartphones to mitigate pressure on the medical infrastructure. While increasing the number of healthcare facilities might be a long-term solution to the growing  demand, the ability to manage and utilize current healthcare services and resources more effectively and efficiently remains key to overcoming these challenges. Murafiq App will empower patients with access to core services and data points to reduce redundant visits to hospitals and medical facilities. In the post-Covid-19 era most hospitals that enabled digital back-end solutions are providing their patients with companion apps. Such apps enable patients to access their test results, medical records, diagnosis and treatment, while they can also book appointments with new or existing doctors who provide tele-consultation, along with access to reminders related to vaccination, tips and guidelines. By empowering patients with these solutions that serve as front desks for hospitals, less hospital visits are required, eventually reducing pressure on the current infrastructure.

USE CASE

JOURNEY

Layla, a wife and mother of 2 children living in Al Madinah, has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She needs help to make the necessary lifestyle changes, so she downloads the new ‘Patient Companion App’.

After linking her ID to the app, Layla can view her full medical history and prescribed medications. She orders and books a delivery slot later that evening to receive her first batch of medication, while also confirming her recurring need for these medications on a weekly basis.

As there are several specialists to check up with during her treatment journey, Layla uses the appointment booking feature to select the most suitable dates and confirm her selection of physicians.

Since she values spending time with the family, she is pleased with the flexible option of tele-health consultations, which is available at her fingertip through her iPhone.

One year later, Layla is excited for the future as doctors tell her that she is in remission. She is still required to check up with her doctor every 6 months, so she adjusts her notification preferences on the Patient Companion App to remind her when appointments are due.
